The English translations are certainly not perfect. If you have any "improvements" to propose, they are welcomed. We are looking for a translation in Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian, … Please HELP!!!

Tanks in Town is the most important concentration of tanks inthe world. In one of the most prestigious sites of Europe: the Grand Place of Mons. All began with a very banal Liberty Convoy commemorating the Liberation of Mons, from that, the team of the "Military Vehicles" of the "Royal Auto Moto Club" (Jean-Claude Busine, Pierre Deghaye, François Dumontn Philippe Save, Carlos Wageman, …) succeeded in realizing a worldwide exceptional event. In 2005, thanks to the cooperation of the "Groupement Belge de Reconstitution Historique Militaire 1940-1945" more and more people attend the re-enactment in Mesvin. To be followed and encouraged!

The re-enactors have realized an important progress in the respect of the uniforms. But some people in contemporary clothes are still accepted on the vehicles and US camouflage “uniforms” were noticed. They were almost never used on the European battle field. The "popovs" have disappeared with their red dishcloth. Very happily. If they had been in Mons in 1944 they would have stayed here for more than half a century. The authenticity of the re-enactment has been saved. Congratulations and thank you.

You are to find a lot of information about the "Battle of the Mons Pocket" in the introduction for the other years, in particular about General Maurice ROSE who commanded the 3rd Armored Division.

In fact, the battle took place on the territories of Quevy and Goegnies. But history always gives the name of an important city to battles. In this case Mons. When the 3rd Armored Division and the 1st Infantry Division arrived on September 2nd 1944, more than 60.000 German soldiers were trapped. Half of them escaped. We dare say "happily" because we do not know what could have remained of the historical heart of the city if the two armies had fought in the center.
